Pack it Right, Travel Light, Travel Smart

This girl is feeling like an official road warrior as I approach six months into my new role at work. I’ve been refining my travel game trip by trip and thought it was time for a blog post sharing what I’ve learned. Below are my tried and true pieces that keep me comfy, fit, and charged on the road.

Small High Tech

Calm App – There is a reason why this was named App of the Year for 2017. Calm is your key to a more restful sleep on the road. I am a light sleeper so any noise from the hallway or adjoining room and this girl is wide awake at 2am. The Calm App not only has seemingly addictive sleep stories to lull you to sleep, I also typically leave the rain or waterfall sounds on throughout the night to provide a soothing white noise to keep me in deep rest. You’ll also find the Calm App being promoted at Xpress Spas throughout most major airports. You’ll get 10 minutes of free lounge chair time if you are a Calm subscriber. The app is subscription based, try it free for 7 days and then pay $59.99 for a year subscription.

Retractable Chargers – Retractable USB cables are life changing. If you need a short span when charging from your seat on the airplane or a long one to reach from the wall to your conference table, these guys are flexible when you need it. $12.99 for a 2 Foot Long Cable from Amazon.

Air Pods – From taking a conference call walking through the airport to cordless free runs on the treadmill, I can’t believe I waited this long to buy a pair of AirPods. Highly, highly, highly recommend. $159 from Apple.

Mini Dual USB Chargers – I love these mini dual chargers, I keep one in my purse to use throughout the day and one in my suitcase for the hotel room. Get a set of Two from Amazon for $14.99.

That Work Out Road Game

Gaiam Foldable Yoga Mat – This mat is a life saver for me on the road. When I’m on short trips and only taking a carry-on sized bag, I never have room for running shoes. Taking the mat means I can do a Yoga workout barefoot in my hotel room using my Asana Rebel App (see that favorite below!). This mat gives me plenty of traction for long pose holds without slipping. $24.98 on Amazon.

Asana Rebel Yoga Fitness App – I have been using Asana Rebel for over a year now, I use it almost everyday both at home and on the road. The app is truly “Yoga Inspired Fitness” – meaning you get a great workout that gets your heart rate up but is still rooted in traditional yoga. The routines change often so you don’t get stuck in a rut. I also love that is has options for both short and long workouts so there is always an option that will meet your time constraints. The app is subscription based, pay $37.99 for 3 months.

Collapsable Water Bottle – I love taking a water bottle on the road but if I’m short on space, I need something compact. The Que water bottle collapses making it easy to throw in your purse or your carry-on. Find it on Amazon for $25.95.

Fabletics Work Out Clothes – Another tried and true membership for me, I’ve been using Fabletics for two years now. The workout clothes are really high quality and come in unique designs. With the VIP membership you can get an entire outfit – sports bra, pants, and top for as low as $49.95. Check out their website for all the details.

Budget Friendly Travel Beauty from Target

target beauty

Target is my go-to for all travel sized products. Below are my top (4) go-to products to keep my skin clear on the road.

Yes Facial Wipes – Paraben free, Biodegradable, and FSC Certified these babies are my go-to for removing make up and feeling refreshed at the end of the day. Find them at Target for $2.99.

Clean & Clear Morning Burst – Not my preferred daily face wash but it’s the best I’ve found in pre-packaged travel size. The scent is definitely invigorating and lovely in the morning, find it at Target or Walmart for $0.98.

Acne Spot Treatment – Nothing is worse than having a breakout during a business trip. This Target brand spot treatment has the exact same ingredients as the Neutrogena version but about 30% less in cost. Find it at Target for $4.19.

Deep Cleaning Pore Strips – Keep those pores from getting clogged on the road by using this great generic version of pore strips from Target. You’ll find they have the same ingredients as the Biore brand but cost significantly less. Available at Target for $5.59.

Mark & Graham Greatest Hits

Commute Clutch – I’ve written about it before, I’ll write about it again. This wallet-by-day, clutch-by-night is one of my favorite pieces of all time. Find it at Mark & Graham for $129.

Small Travel Jewelry Case – This handy storage solution has plenty of space for your rings, earrings, and a hidden compartment with a hook and pocket for your necklaces. For only $69 at Mark & Graham this is a great item to gift.

Packing Cubes

Amazon Basics Packing Cubes – LIFE CHANGING FOR PACKING. I am obsessed with these lightweight, breathable packing cubes from Amazon. One, they keep you organized by outfit when you pack – so when you get to your destination you don’t have to dig through your suitcase, just pull out the bag by outfit. Two, it keeps your dirty shoes contained instead of having them rub against your clean clothes. Three, it makes for a great way to sort and store your dirty clothes at the end of your journey. For only $19.99 seriously everyone should have these.

Chic + Comfy PJs

The Best PJs – Bamboo PJs are soft, breathable, and eco-friendly. I am obsessed with both the GYS and Latuza brands sold on Amazon. They come in an assortment of styles and colors, I love this set in black with a chic bit of white trim. At $19.99 on Amazon these are a steal!

Germaphobe Friendly

Keepin’ It Clean – Between hotel rooms and airplanes I am always trying my best to NOT get sick. Besides taking elderberry daily and washing hands constantly, I always keep these two items in my bag as well. I typically wipe down the remote in the hotel room as well as the lamp I’ll be hitting on and off at bedtime. As for keeping my bare feet off the floor, I traded in socks for these comfy and cute ballet slippers from Isotoners – only $17.75 on Amazon.
