When my girlfriends from DC and I decided to plan a gals-only getaway, we really struggled with finding the right location. Where could we go that was relatively inexpensive for flights but fun and exotic? We didn’t want to go to just any US city, we wanted to feel transported.
Originally we had our eyes on Tulum, which has grown in massive popularity as a destination over the past few years. Problem is, we wanted a room large enough for all of us to stay together – essentially going for a grown up sleepover vibe. Staying up late in our pjs talking, blasting Lauren Hill while we get ready in the bathroom. Ladies, you know what I’m talking about! Unfortunately we couldn’t find any hotel in Tulum that fit our needs and we didn’t think booking an Airbnb would be safe.
We had already booked our flights to Cancun so we were locked in to Mexico. With Tulum now an unlikely fit, we started looking for a place in Cancun that was luxurious and NOT a total party scene. We are so thankful to have found Nizuc Resort + Spa. It was only 15 minutes from the airport but it felt a world away. Every review we could find was 5 Star, from service to food to amenities – Nizuc was delivering it all.
We booked our hotel suite through American Express for a less expensive rate and then split that nightly rate between the three of us – which made it super affordable! We booked private transport through the hotel for our airport arrival and departure which meant were greeted by a professional driver with cool towels, cold water, and wifi available in the black SUV.
As we approached Nizuc we could tell this resort WAS NOT playing around about security. The security guards at the entrance were incredibly thorough with the driver as we checked in – being three girls alone in Mexico, this immediately gave us an overwhelming since of comfort and safety.
We stayed Thursday through Sunday, which felt like the perfect amount of time. We mixed up our days with outings to Play del Carmen for shopping, dancing in the ‘Party Zone’ to 2000s club music and lounging by the beach and pool at the resort. The service at Nizuc was absolute perfection. If hotels can be given 6 stars, Nizuc should have that rating. I have stayed at some pretty incredible hotels around the world and would certainly rank Nizuc up there in my top three.
If you are looking for a quick a getaway to Mexico I highly recommend Cancun and Nizuc. Coming from Austin, I could fly direct on a 2.5 hour flight, be at the resort in 15 minutes, stay in the same time zone AND feel like I’m a world away.
