Style Edition: When Color Meets Classic

A big thanks to everyone who sends me sweet style messages through Instagram Stories. I love giving advice on how to put together your looks and I promised to start documenting and sharing how I put together my own.

Today I’m talking about my juicy look from two weeks ago, and it was A LOOK. Anyone who knows me personally knows the wardrobe I own is 98% all black. The dress I wore in this shot is a rental, a Badgley Mishcka dress I ordered from Rent the Runway. The majority of the clothes I post are actually rentals as it is by far the most cost effective way to experience high quality fashion…but that’s another post for another day.

This lime green flutter dress was so summery and fun, and it really could go day or night depending on how you styled it. I was going for a late afternoon/early evening look so decided to go more daytime.

The color of this dress is bold, and the cut in the skirt has enough movement and interest you don’t need much to make an entrance. I felt like jewelry or bold makeup would feel more South Beach than is my personality, but the dress needed something…so I reached for old faithful, my Panama Hat. If you don’t own one, go buy one immediately. It’s the chicest way to get through the summer, I’ve had mine for YEARS.

After I threw on the hat I was debating about what bag to use. Typically I do a black leather clutch but the black felt so heavy against the lightness and brightness of the dress, it wasn’t going to work. I decided to pull out my round straw purse I bought in Mexico for $10. That straw bag with the Panama Hat completely transformed this dress into something much more me – tailored and classic, with a twist.

I put together a few links to duplicate the look, including a ‘dress for less!’ option if you don’t have Rent the Runway or don’t want to splurge on the Badgley Mischka. Any questions or comments, please drop me a line below and thanks for stopping by!
