A Brewery for the Whole Family: A Day at Fitzhugh Brewing

It has been a tough year for parents. Kids are remote learning, parents are working from home, no one has enough space and everyone wants out of the house. My husband and I are in our home 95% of the time during the work week, so I am personally SO thankful to have a place like Fitzhugh Brewing nearby to offer a bit of respite.

Located off of – you guessed it! – Fitzhugh Road, this new brewery was made for families like mine. You arrive in a bright and airy interior where the main order counter for both food and beverage are located. You’ll get a table number after you order so everything can be delivered to you – which is CLUTCH when you have your hands full with small children. Big plus – this place has lovely, clean bathrooms. This is worth mentioning because I’ve been to a few establishments out here without the same high standards.

During our visit I asked the owner, Kerbey Smith, what inspired her to start this brewery. Kerbey said she loved beer but felt most breweries were geared towards men or people who were already beer experts. She wanted to create an environment at Fitzhugh Brewing that was female friendly and family friendly, a place where people could gather in an inclusive atmosphere and learn about beer. Head Brewer Nathan Rice is focused on creating brews from regions all across the world, making Fitzhugh Brewing a place to try unique beers you cannot find anywhere else in the Texas Hill Country.

The brewery has food and drink items for the whole family – juice boxes, rose, and of course all their fantastic beers on tap. My favorite beer there right now is the Wee Scot. It’s delish! As for food, our twins LOVE the Mini Corn Dogs with Mac & Cheese while my husband and I share the Ribs (they’re insane) and a Pretzel served with either Queso or Spicy Mustard. If the kiddos want dessert, try their locally sourced Frio’s Austin Gourmet Pops in the Birthday Cake flavor. My twins went NUTS over them.

I could go on and on about how wonderful this place is because we have been MANY times. I’m so thrilled to support a woman owned brewery out here in the Hill Country that is focused on providing an inclusive, fun, and safe atmosphere for families. If you haven’t been to Fitzhugh Brewing please stop by! You can find their website by clicking here.

Cheers, y’all! – Stacy
