I recently was invited to visit the town of Boerne, TX which made for a delightful Hill Country Saturday! Located just 30 minutes from San Antonio and 1 hour and 30 minutes from Austin, this lovely town was founded by German settlers in 1849 and has been serving up charm, bratwursts and brews ever since.
The Hubs and I lucked out that we visited on the same weekend as the town’s annual Corvette Show – which was FANTASTIC. They had over 400 cars in the show! Read on below as I highlight where to have lunch, shop local artisans, explore a cave, and the best of the rest on this lovely little Main Street.
Where to Eat – The Dienger Trading Co.
Chic, lovely, and delicious are three words I would use to describe The Deinger Trading Co located at 210 N. Main Street in Downtown Boerne. The space honors its heritage while also feeling modern and stylish. Bistro chairs, black and white penny tile floors, and exposed brick all give this place a European ambiance perfect for lunch.

The staff was wonderful, offering wine pairings based on our menu selections and convincing us we could not leave without having their renowned Coconut Cream Pie (worth the calories!). I had the Chicken Salad Croissant and a Salad, the Hubs had the Parmesan Crusted Turkey Club with a Cup of Soup.
Everything was fantastic from food to vibe, I truly can’t recommend this place enough. After you’ve finished your meal, wander through their boutique that has finds for everyone in the family. I’m still dreaming about this White Checked Organza Summer Dress in the women’s section.

Where to Shop – Handmade on Main
If you want to shop goods by local artisans, for yourself or to create the perfect gift for someone else, Handmade on Main is THE place you need to shop! They have something for everyone and a wonderfully curated collection of work by craftsmen and artisans. The owner Amy will gladly tell you the story of every vendor in the shop, she knows their stories and their products. Shopping with Amy is maybe the most local thing you could do in Boerne! Pictured below are some of my FAVES that I came home with.

The clay earrings from Every Clay and gorgeous handmade ceramic pieces from ECB Designs are perfect for the modern millennial. An array of Hot Sauces by Texas Hill Country Hot Sauce Company and Olive Oils from The Artful Olive Company are a must for those who love to cook. Looking for a Baby or New Mom Gift? Check out the adorable lovey dolls from Pops of Whimsy and salves, essential oils, and teas from both From Scratch Farm and Careha + Co.

Have an Adventure! – Cave Without a Name
If you are a couple or friends exploring for a day trip, I highly recommend hitting up Cave Without a Name as part of your day. If you’re exploring with small children or a family, you could spend half a day just at the cave. I wrote up a whole separate blog post about my family’s visit to Cave Without A Name (spoiler alert – it was awesome!) so if you’d like to know more, click here. I’ve put some eye candy below to tempt you.

The Best of the Rest – Treats, Shops, and Car Shows
We spent a decent amount of our afternoon snacking and drooling over the gorgeous corvettes that lined Main Street on this April afternoon. This was the annual Corvette Show but they also have ‘The Key To The Hills Rod Run’ that only features coupes, sedans, and roadsters from before 1949. That festival is held along Boerne’s Main Street in early October.

If you’re looking to for a dash of nostalgia, pop in to Salty & Sweet located at 210 N Main Street. They’ve got something for everyone – ice cream, baked goods, homemade salty pretzels, or even vintage bottles of pop. You can also experience Christmas year round at the The Christmas Shoppe located at 132 S Main Street. There are so many small businesses to support in this community, take a weekend drive and explore all the wonder of Boerne and the Hill Country.
